To Friendship

A friend in need is a friend indeed, or so it goes
And fair weather friends no better than ones foes
You never meant to mean a single word you meant to say
I have known it for these million years and a day

The signs were there from the very start
You preferred to spend all our time apart
It was not that you were suspicious of my heart
All you saw in me was an unfit and an upstart

Silly endearing pet names can only take it thus far
Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out just what you are
Nary an honest bone in that libidinous body of yours
Years I have deliberately wasted on your lies and tears

Convenience thy name is woman, especially this particular one
It’s typically easy for you to hop onto any other bandwagon
Extreme in nature, you appallingly neglect or desperately cling on
Yet you find it cozy to use my shoulders to regularly cry on

If this is what you offer in the name of friendship
I desire no part in being the fish in your con-scam-ship
So I bid adieu to these darkest skeletons in your closet
I never knew you and not knowing you, for me, would be best

So long and thanks for all your deceitfully friendly calls and chats
I had lots of fun while it lasted and have no sorrow or regrets
It’s a new beginning, a fresh day, a quiet life, now that you are out of it
I look towards a future not darkened by your silly humor or dramatics

And ere I forget, much obliged for your sincere "you are not alone" assurances
For, by abandoning, you prove me right that consistency thou dost not posses
It is merely a part of your frivolous trait, making such an oath
I know we are, one and all, alone, and never will that change, by troth
